SAN FRANCISCO (KNX) — Sheryl Sandberg – chief operating officer (COO) of Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta – announced Wednesday she's stepping down.

Sandberg shared the news in a lengthy Facebook post on Wednesday.
"I am beyond grateful to the thousands of brilliant, dedicated people at Meta with whom I have had the privilege of working over the last 14 years," she said. "Every day someone does something that stops me in my tracks and reminds me how lucky I am to be surrounded by such remarkable colleagues."
Sandberg is arguably the brand's most high-profile figure behind CEO Mark Zuckerberg. She was one of his top advisors, bringing years of experience from her time in advertising at Google. She was undoubtedly instrumental in making the dorm-room startup a profitable industry leader.
"When I took this job in 2008, I hoped I would be in this role for five years. Fourteen years later, it is time for me to write the next chapter of my life," her post continued, noting that she was "not entirely sure what the future will bring." However, Sandberg did say she'd continue to prioritize her charitable work with her foundation.
What is certain is a life change: Ms. Sandberg will marry her fiancé this summer.
