A young woman was shot and killed Monday night, and a man was critically wounded at a screening for the horror movie “The Forever Purge,” authorities said.

In a news release Tuesday, the Corona Police Department said officers dispatched just before midnight to the Regal movie theater at The Crossings. The theater was showing "The Forever Purge," a horror movie where murder is legal once a year for 12 hours.

Police said they found two people with gunshot injuries when they arrived. An 18-year-old woman died at the theater. Paramedics rushed a 19-year-old man to the hospital with severe injuries. Authorities don’t know exactly where the victims were shot in the theater and have yet to interview any witnesses.

Victims were later identified as Rylee Goodrich, 18, and Anthony Barajas, 19. Barajas is a TikTok personality with more than 1 million followers who had most recently posted about going on vacation with his family.

A spokesperson for the police department confirmed the two shooting victims were together at the theater’s 9:35 p.m. showing of “The Forever Purge,” the fifth installment in the gory, dystopian horror film franchise about an annual, national holiday where all crime, including murder, is legalized.

Police said only six tickets had been sold for the showing, KTLA reported.

Regal Cinemas said it was aware of the incident at the theater.

“We are currently working with the local authorities regarding the investigation. Our primary concern is for the safety and security of our guests and staff,” Regal Cinemas wrote in a statement.

Authorities have not arrested anyone or named any suspects. However, Corona police said forensic investigators from the Riverside County sheriff’s were assisting its investigation.

Movie theaters began showing “The Forever Purge” -- the series’ final installment -- in early July.
