Dating can be difficult and filled with an array of stressful unknowns, but a recent survey has found that one thing people do know brings even more stress: It tends to cost money.

A survey conducted by Self Financial found that 69% of American adults reported feeling uneasy about the cost of a date, and 68% expressed anxiety about managing expenses when planning a date.

Because of how much it affects those looking for love, the surveyors found that money plays a major role in the stresses of dating.

While examining how money played a role in today’s dating world, the survey found that almost two-thirds of Americans said they felt spending more on their date would make it a success.

The average cost for men and women was also examined, and it was found that men spent an average of $67.87 per date, while women spent less at $56.61.

As for what dates people prefer, the poll found that dinner dates were the top choice for those hoping to meet a potential partner (47.8%), while 44% said they prefer coffee dates.

This isn’t the first survey to examine dating habits, as one from Lending Tree found that on average, Gen Z ($72) and Baby Boomers ($58) spent the least amount on first dates, while Millennials ($83) and Gen X ($82) spent the most.
