Toyota is recalling more than 380,000 Tacoma pickup trucks due to an issue that could cause parts to fall off the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The automaker said welding debris left on the rear axle assembly during manufacturing could cause retaining nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off, potentially causing an axle shaft separation.

If the vehicle is operated with loosened nuts, drivers may feel a vibration, hear an abnormal noise or observe leaking of differential oil, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall notice. If a separation occurs, vehicle stability and brake performance could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall includes certain 2022-2023 Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks. Approximately 381,199 vehicles are included in the recall.

The automaker didn't mention whether any crashes or injuries have been caused by the issue.

Toyota will inform the owners of recalled vehicles by late-April and dealers will replace any damaged components, free of charge.
