Trader Joe’s announced Thursday that the supplier of its Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup with use by dates ranging from July 18 to September 15 may contain bugs.
“No known adverse health effects have been reported to date, and all potentially affected product has been removed from sale and destroyed,” said the company.
These products are sold in 20 oz. film sealed plastic containers with lids.
According to an event document from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the voluntary recall was initiated by Winter Gardens Quality Foods, Inc. of Oxford, Pa., on July 10. Overall, 10,889 cases of the soup were distributed in Florida, Illinois, California, Texas, Washington, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
Insects were inside “the frozen broccoli florets” in the soup, the FDA said.
