President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social his intention to carry out "remigration," a concept associated with white nationalists aiming to establish what they call white ethnostates.

"I am reversing the Invasion. It’s called Remigration. Our courageous ICE Officers, who are daily being subjected to doxxing and murder threats, are HEROES. We will always have their back as they carry out this noble mission. America will be for Americans again!" he wrote Thursday on Truth social.

Yahoo News reported that 'remigration' is a "terminology is popular in global far-right circles, and has been used by right-wing populist politicians in Europe to call for the mass deportations of immigrants in the name of restoring national identity."

Yahoo added that the term was popularized by Martin Sellner, an Austrian far-right activist who was involved with neo-Nazis as a teenager, adding, "He’s a leader of the Austrian chapter of Generation Identity, which anti-extremism groups have described as an international white supremacist network."

Will Sommer, a senior reporter at The Bulwark, used the post to highlight what he called the "escalation of violence and sadism within the MAGA movement," leading to a potential watershed moment.

The president used the 'remigration' term on social media on Thursday amid an outcry in California over sending national guard troops to Los Angeles despite the governor's objection, and then he used it again on Sunday after thousands upon thousands of people had joined events in separate cities across the U.S. for 'No Kings' rallies against Trump's agenda Saturday.

On Sunday, Trump wrote, "“Our Federal Government will continue to be focused on the REMIGRATION of Aliens to the places from where they came, and preventing the admission of ANYONE who undermines the domestic tranquility of the United States." Observers noted the 'tranquility' part seemed aimed at the protests, which were overwhelmingly peaceful except for a short bout of violence in Detroit when a motorcycle gang confronted protestors.

The president's posts had The Monthly Review reporting that little attention has been paid to Trump's stated plan to create a new Office of Remigration. Little is known about plans for the office, but the term itself "has become a signature issue and term among far-right activists and political parties in Europe, and has been adopted by Germany’s Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) and Austria’s Freedom party (FPÖ)," the outlet said.
