Trump resets, rescinding 78 Biden-era executive actions

President Donald Trump has wasted little time since swearing his oath of office on Monday, issuing a slew of executive orders just hours after returning to the White House.

“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump said in the opening line of his inaugural address.

Before the celebrations concluded on Monday, Trump was already putting his pen to paper.

Among the new executive orders were several new initiatives to help implement his agenda, but he also passed orders to erase Biden-era policy. In total, Trump has rescinded 78 executive actions put in place by the prior administration, the White House shared.

Among the executive orders to be wiped away by Trump on Monday were several that focused on DEI efforts in the federal government.

An executive order that Biden had put in place to extend prohibitions on sex discrimination in federal agencies has now been upended, along with another order that allowed transgender people to serve in the military.

Other orders put in place by Biden and removed by Trump focused on reforming the country’s prison system. The order from Biden that banned the renewal of private prison contracts was among those to be walked back, now opening the door for new contracts.

Trump has also pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Accords once again, something Biden returned the US to on day one of his presidency.

Trump not only turned over Biden’s executive orders, but he also wiped away his judicial efforts in his first action as president.

The president has pardoned almost 1,500 people who were charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, including those who were convicted of assaulting police officers.

“These are the hostages,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “Approximately 1,500 for a pardon – full pardon.”

He has also commuted sentences for 14 other people, which included the leaders of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.

While even former President Biden signed a slew of executive orders on his first day as president, some have shared that Trump’s actions are new.

“I’ve never seen that before,” KCBS political analyst Marc Sandalow shared with Audacy, noting that the orders were being signed before the cake was cut.

Sandalow shared that while Trump was new to the game when he entered office in 2017, he knows what’s going on this time around, and “he plans to waste no time.”
