Former President Donald Trump hinted at a possible option for his vice president, should he win the 2024 nominee, this week when he handed out praise for GOP nominee Vivek Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy is also running for the 2024 GOP nomination and has been gaining in the polls as of late, closing the gap between himself and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
While speaking with conservative talk show host Glen Beck on Tuesday, Trump said that Ramaswamy was “smart,” “young,” and “full of talent.”
The compliments from the former president seem to show his interest in possibly teaming up with Ramaswamy, as his other opponents receive nothing but insults and attacks.
Beck outright asked Trump what he thought of “Vice President Ramaswamy,” earning the response from Trump.
“He’s a very, very, very intelligent person. He’s got good energy, and he could be some form of something,” Trump said. “I tell you, I think he’d be very good.”
Ramaswamy, a 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur and first-generation American, found himself in the spotlight at the first GOP nominee debate.
During the debate, Ramaswamy got into it with the other candidates, as they all seemed to take turns firing shots at the newcomer.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he “sounds like ChatGPT,” and criticized him for saying something similar to former President Barack Obama in his first debate, to which Ramaswamy fired back.
“Give me a hug just like you did to Obama, and you’ll help elect me just like you did to Obama. Give me that damn hug, brother,” Ramaswamy said.
Former Vice President Mike Pence called him a “rookie,” and former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley said his foreign policy proposals would make the U.S. less safe.
In response to the latter, Ramaswamy wished Haley well in her “future career on the boards of Lockheed and Raytheon.”
In Trump’s interview with Beck, he addressed some of the controversy that Ramaswamy has found himself in, saying that he should reign it back in.
“He’s starting to get out there a little bit. He’s getting a little bit controversial,” Trump said. “I got to tell him: ‘Be a little bit careful. Some things you have to hold in just a little bit, right?’”
