After doing away with Twitter verifications last month, in favor of accounts paying for their blue check, CEO Elon Musk continues to roll out new features in the hopes of making the social media site profitable.
Musk’s latest subscription service on the platform comes in the form of a pay-per-article concept that would allow media publishers to sell their stories to people one-by-one.
Since his controversial takeover of the social media site, Musk has continued to push for changes that he says will make Twitter a place for free speech.
Now, the billionaire says that the upcoming change, expected sometime this month, will be a “major win-win for both media orgs & the public.”
According to Musk, the service will act as a one-way ticket past traditional paywalls for media outlets, allowing consumers to only read and pay for the articles they want.
“This enables users who would not sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher per article price for when they want to read an occasional article,” Musk tweeted.
Musk didn’t share exactly when the service would begin to be offered or what it would take for media outlets to opt into the service.
Last week, Twitter added a monetization feature for everyday users, allowing them to put “their text, pics & video” posts behind a subscription.
