At least three people were hospitalized after a shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus Wednesday. Las Vegas police confirmed the shooter was found dead, but further details on the suspect and victims haven’t been released.

UNLV professor Dan Bubb joined KNX News’ Charles Feldman by phone from his campus office, where he was still under lockdown. He said the faculty had been trained by the university police on what to do during an active shooter situation.

“I’ve been through this before,” he said. “We had a shooting in the past, and I was actually in the classroom and I had to get my students to move them to the other side of the room, turn off the light, lock the doors, as we’re trained to do.”

As soon as the active shooter alert went out at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Bubb and other faculty went around the building gathering up students.

“We were able to move a lot of our students into the conference room, where we don't have any windows except for what are on the doors,” he said. “And we also had to move students into the copy room, where there are no windows. So to make sure that they’re safe, right now we’re just doing a heck to make sure that all of the faculty in our department are okay.”

Bubb said he was four buildings north of where the shooting took place. He hadn’t heard any details from students who were near the shooting, but had texted and emailed them to confirm they were safe.

Allister Dias, editor-in-chief of the student-run newspaper the UNLV Scarlet & Gray Freepress Newspaper, said he was in the campus union when he heard shots ring out.

"I was in the newspaper office with one of my staff members, and we were able to safely evacuate through the interior stairwell and out the side of the building," he said.

Dias and the other staff member made it to safety across the street, where they stayed huddled with other students for four hours.

“I think the response was incredible, and we were able to get police on the ground here in incredible time,” he said.
