The pandemic continues to rage over a year and a half later, and after so long without travel, many are looking forward to getting away for the Labor Day weekend. But, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traveling is not a good idea for the unvaccinated.

Because the Delta variant is so contagious and still pouncing mostly on the unvaccinated, the CDC said anyone who isn’t fully protected by the vaccine should not be traveling this weekend.

Even those who are fully vaccinated should consider the high rates of spread before heading out for the weekend.

“Given where we are with disease transmission right now, we would say that people need to take these risks into their own consideration if they are traveling,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

For those who are vaccinated, there are certain precautions that they can take while traveling.

“Well the first thing, if you’re in any kind of crowded circumstances such as in a conveyance, such as a train or a plane, you’ve got to keep your mask on,” said infectious disease expert Dr. William Schaffner at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Health experts have said they are concerned about a spike in cases following Labor Day weekend.
