With only one week to go until Halloween, grocery delivery company Instacart has stepped up to help answer one of the big questions of the season: What is the most popular Halloween candy?
The company analyzed shopping data from all of its grocery orders from October 2023 that contained candy and commissioned the Harris Poll to conduct a survey of 2,000 Americans in order to “understand the sweet confections people are enjoying.”
Their finding: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were the most popular Halloween candy sold via Instacart.
Rounding out the top 10, in order:

-Snickers
-Peanut M&M’s
-Twix
-Kit Kat
-Hershey’s Milk Chocolate
-Milky Way
-Sour Patch Kids
-Skittles
Instacart said 43 states had Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as the most-purchased Halloween Candy. Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Utah all reported variations of M&M’s as the top seller.

The company also ranked hundreds, if not thousands of U.S. zip-codes to find the “Most Halloween-iest” zip codes in the country. Utah boasts the top two zip codes, but the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale cracked the list with the fifth-best “scare score.”
Hinsdale’s scare score — which is based on Instacart’s shopping data for candy, costumes and decor — was a 99.7. The village scored highest for candy, which earned a 98 rating out of 100, and Instacart said local favorites in the suburb included Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Almond, Milky Way and Kit Kat.
