In a scene that made neighbors' jaws drop and left many -- including first responders -- puzzled, a car slammed into the roof of a home in Louisiana on Friday.
Photos of the bizarre crash displayed a mangled, black vehicle upside down on top of the residence.
The woman driving the car was airlifted to the hospital. Two children were inside the house when the accident occurred, but they managed to get out safely.
The home and car suffered severe damage. Firefighters feared that while doing the rescue, the house would cave in, WAFB reported.
An investigation is ongoing to figure out exactly how the car managed to crash into the home.
Brian Lacoste, who lives nearby, said the crash sounded like an explosion.
"I'm not sure what happened, but they had to be going quite a good speed to hit the ditch, jump, hit the tree and end up in the roof," Lacoste told WAFB. "I was a first responder for four years and I've never seen nothing like this."
Police believe the driver went over a ditch and clipped a tree, which forced her car to go airborne and crash through the attic of the home, WBRZ reported.
The police chief stated the driver most likely had a medical issue before the collision. Her current condition is unknown.
