Guinness World Records has already certified her as having lived the eighth-longest of anyone in history with a verifiable age, reaching 117 years, 168 days.
Her family announced her death on social media, posting, “She has gone the way she wanted: in her sleep, at peace, and without pain.”
Branyas lived out the last 20 years of her life in Olot, Spain, in the Santa Maria del Tura nursing home. Before her death, her family posted these words from her: “The time is near. Don't cry, I don't like tears. And above all, don't suffer for me. Wherever I go, I will be happy," she added in the account that is run by her family.”
Branyas Morera took over the mantle of oldest living person in January 2023. The new holder of that title is 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka of Japan, according to the U.S. Gerontology Research Group.
