Some Black political leaders in California are pushing people in the Black and Latino communities to get the COVID-9 vaccine.

Oakland Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee says Congress allocated money to help with this issue.

She and the other leaders say churches and community groups are trusted and play a key role in boosting vaccination numbers.

"We wrote in that the money should be directed to community based organizations, nonprofit faith based groups to address the racial equity issue. So the money is there we just need to make sure our groups and our organizations know the money is there to access the funding," she says.

A recent Public Policy Institute of California poll finds the number of Black people in California who would probably or definitely refuse the vaccine dropped from 55 percent in January to about 30 percent at the end of March.
