
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A child has died after being struck by a vehicle near a South Bay elementary school on Friday.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:03 a.m. on Castelmont Avenue near Castemont Elementary School in Campbell, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, authorities announced just after 10 a.m.
Preliminary information revealed that the child was at a crosswalk with an adult female when the two pedestrians were hit. The woman was transported to the hospital and treated for moderate non-life threatening injuries.
The driver is cooperating with authorities.
San Jose Police said this is their 47th fatal traffic incident, 49th fatality as a result of those incidents, and 26th pedestrian death.
In a statement released prior to the boy's death, the Campbell Unified School District said the boy was a student at the school.
No other information was released.
