A state lawmaker says he's received lots of complaints about the Employment Development Department's new ID verification system that's meant to reduce fraud.
Fresno Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson says " ID.me " has continuous glitches and rejects legitimate forms of ID.
"EDD is not improving. EDD is going backwards. And the very technology that was supposed to save the system is failing it and failing the people of California," Patterson says.
He says that forces people to go through manual verification -- which can take months.
He says he wants answers from EDD officials other than hearing they're working on it.
The unemployment system in the state has been hit with widespread fraud that Bank of America says could total $2 billion dollars.
We've contacted the EDD for a response but have not yet heard back.
