California's new Attorney General announces the launch of a new "Racial Justice Bureau."
For Rob Bonta, taking on hate crime will always be one of his top priorities as the people's attorney.
"Too many Asian, Latino, Black, Native American, people with disabilities, LGBTQ, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh Californians are hurting. And make not mistake right now, we are in a full on state of crisis, a full on state of emergency when it comes to hate violence against the Asian, Pacific Islander community," he says.
Attorney General Bonta says the new Racial Justice Bureau will initially bring six new attorneys and a supervising deputy AG to the CA Department of Justice's Civil Rights Enforcement Section.
"These attorneys will assist with ongoing work on a broad range of significant civil rights and constitutional matters including work to address hate crimes," he says.
He also plans to have a virtual convening against hate crime with the state's Big City Mayors.
