SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KNX) – California’s indoor mask requirement is set to end on Feb. 15 for vaccinated residents, according to Governor Gavin Newsom.

“Unvaccinated people will still need to wear masks indoors,” Newsom tweeted, before encouraging people to get vaccinated and boosted.

The mandate will apply to counties that don't have local mask mandates of their own, which include San Diego, Orange, and San Bernardino, the Los Angeles Times reported.

For counties with local mask mandates, which includes Los Angeles County, the mask orders will stay as they are.

In addition to lifting the mask mandate, state health officials are also lifting the mandate that requires people to test negative for COVID before visiting nursing homes or hospitals, according to the Associated Press.

The masking mandate is staying for school children; however, health officials said they're continuing to evaluate the requirement.

The mask mandate was brought back in mid-December, following a rise of the Omicron variant in the state.
