Is California due for more literal shakeups? Possibly, if an ancient sign of impending earthquakes is to be believed.
The carcass of a 12-foot oarfish, dubbed a “harbinger of doom” by some, was found in La Jolla Cove in San Diego.

As if to lend credence to the mystic prophesies about what happens when dead oarfish turn up, a 4.6 earthquake rumbled through the City of Angels just two days after the fish was found.
Usually found in the deeper parts of the ocean, oarfish aren’t often sighted by seagoers, remaining in such deep waters that even upon death, their bodies rarely make it to areas shallow enough for them to be found.
In fact, only 20 dead oarfish have been found washed up in California since 1901, according to San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
The institute published photos of the fish’s body on Facebook after receiving them from a group of kayakers and snorkelers.
