Catalina Island's bison population will grow soon.

The herd that roams the hills will get two pregnant bison to help boost the population, which is now about 100.

Catalina Island Conservancy  president Tony Budrovich tells KNX 1070 News this will also help increase eco-tourism since the bison are so popular.

“Young girls joining the herd are normally wondrously accepted and all the other female bison tend to immediately befriend,” he says.

They were brought to the island about 100 years ago.

Some biologists have expressed concerns about the bison's ability to adapt to warmer and drier conditions on the island due to climate change.

There have also been concerns about their health.

But Budrovich says the bison are happy and healthy.
