LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Dodgers announced a major trade on Friday, acquiring reliever Craig Kimbrel from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder AJ Pollock, a source told The Los Angeles Times and ESPN.
Kimbrel, 33, has a record of 372 saves and a 2.18 earned run average over his 12-year career. The Sox acquired him from crosstown rivals the Cubs in July of last year.
Kimbel poses a potential ninth-inning replacement for closing pitcher Kenley Jansen, who signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves earlier this month.
It’s no small loss for the Dodgers, however — Pollock was a prolific hitter over his 10-season MLB career, producing 21 homeruns, 69 RBIs, and an .892 on-base slugging rate over 117 games for L.A. last year.
