SANTA ANA, Calif. (KNX) – Two former Orange County police officers are accused of kidnapping a woman while working as bounty hunters illegally.

An indictment by an Orange County Grand Jury charged 49-year-old Rodger Jeffrey Corbett, of Corona, and 34-year-old Kevin Andrew Pedersen, of Fullerton, with three felony counts of kidnapping, false imprisonment and enhancement with firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the California Department of Insurance.

An investigation was launched after a video on social media showed Corbett and Pederson trying to find a person who missed their court appearances, and that Corbett and Pederson were “misidentified” as undercover police officers.

“…(A) joint probe by the Department of Insurance and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office Special Prosecutions Unit found that Corbett and Pedersen were former police officers who had not completed the requirements to be bail fugitive recovery persons and were operating in that capacity unlawfully,” the California Department of Insurance said.

Officials said two allegedly kidnapped and handcuffed the person’s girlfriend while being “visibly armed.”

According to the Orange County Register, Cobett’s attorney argued in court that the woman was helping her boyfriend avoid being caught.

The Register also reported that both men had left their law enforcement jobs prior to the incident.

Corbett and Pedersen’s arraignment is scheduled for June 29.
