BELMONT, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – The FBI are teaming up with Belmont police to find the remains of a Stanford graduate who went missing more than two decades ago.
Palo Alto resident Ylva Hagner was 42 years old when she went missing on October 14, 1996. She was last seen leaving IXOS Software, a Belmont software firm where she worked.
Her abandoned car was found, but Lieutenant Pete Lotti with the Belmont Police Department told KCBS Radio the case then went cold.
Almost 30 years later, authorities have reopened the case, conducting two digging operations in Redwood City.
"We basically refocused the case," said Lotti. "It's a cold case investigation and we're out here working with some of our local and federal partners."
Teams are excavating two sites looking for Hagner's remains — one in Stulsaft Park and a backyard along the 3700 block of Farm Hill Blvd.
"We're doing a search for evidence of the case. Any evidence that we can find is welcome at this point to help us, like I said, bring closure to the case," Lotti said.
He told KCBS Radio that authorities do not have any new leads, and although each of the areas they are searching are specific, the locations aren't based on any new clues.
