More than 1.6 million signatures from California residents wanting to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom were verified at the end of April. Less than two months later, Newsom has amassed a stunning war chest to attempt to hold on to his seat.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Newsom – a Democrat - has raised more than $16 million, much of which has come from labor unions, big tech billionaires and real estate developers.

According to Cal Matters, that total is more than all of his Republican challengers – combined.

John Cox, who lost to Newsom in 2018, has raised more than $5 million for his bid — from his finances.
Former Olympian and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner has raised about $212,000.

Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has raised just under than $120,000. Former Congressman Doug Ose reported about $47,000, including a $32,400 from himself.

Faulconer, who recently launched his first campaign ad – in Spanish – told CBS radio he is running because he feels the cost of living is too high.

“If we our kids to be able to live here,” he said. “If we want to actually grow our economy, we have to be able to make it affordable to live in California, which is one of the reasons why I’ve put out front-and-center what will be the largest middle-class tax cut in state history.”

Jenner told KNX that she wants to be the new face of the Republican Party in California.

"I want the Republican Party to come to me. The Republican Party needs to be more inclusive," she said. "I want the image of the Republican Party to change because we need change. I am the poster child for change.”

The recall election is likely to be in the fall. Voters would face two questions: Should Newsom be recalled and who should replace him? The votes on the second question will only be counted if more than half say yes to the first.
