If you have the California DMV wallet on your smartphone, you can now use it for ID verification at select LAX terminals, and it could speed up your holiday travels.
Head over to Terminal 3 or 7, pull up your California DMV wallet, select 'show my mDL,' scan the QR code, and have a photo taken. A TSA officer will verify your image and information match, and you are off to security screening.
The whole process takes a matter of seconds, and who doesn't want to save some time when you're trying to get to your destination for the holidays.
TSA spokesperson Lorie Dankers told KNX News reporter Margaret Carrero, "People always know where their phone is. They may or may not know where their wallet is with their ID. And so being able to grab your phone, activate the app, agree to share your information with TSA for this purpose, and then move through the checkpoint so quickly, it's really a benefit."
For those concerned about TSA having a photo of them, Dankers said fear not, "TSA never stores any of those real-time photos that are taken. We don't have the capacity to do that. We have no need for that. It's a real-time photo that is immediately deleted when the next traveler comes through."
If Dankers' reassurances aren't enough, that's okay too because the mobile ID process is not mandatory, so travelers can opt-out at any time. But Danker said if you are a seasoned traveler or an early adopter of technology, the mobile ID is the way to go.
