WOODLAND, Calif. (KNX) – The Woodland Police Department credits a man’s “quick-thinking” for de-escalating a robbery.
On May 22, Eduardo Plasencia, 43, walked into Bank of the West on Main Street and “passed a note to the teller stating that he was robbing the bank and claimed he had a gun,” the department said.
Plasencia was recognized by another man inside the bank – his former neighbor Michael Armus Sr.
Armus said in an interview with Good Morning America he knew he had to step in and help.
“So, I just approached (Plasencia), and I asked him, I said, 'What's wrong? You don't have a job?'" he recalled. "He said, 'There's nothing in this town for me. Nothing in this town for me. I just want to go to prison.'"
Armus said he convinced Plasencia to go outside with him where the two embraced in a hug. Police arrived shortly after.
Plasencia was booked at Yolo County for attempted robbery.
“Thank you to the very brave Good Samaritan who delivered the right message that made a difference,” the department said.
