According to the National Weather Service, the city's highest total ever was Nov. 5, 1994, at five-and-a-half inches.

The rainfall officially set a record for the wettest October day, the previous high for the month was 2.48 inches recorded on Oct. 13th, 2009.

It's been a long time since the region has seen this kind of rainfall in October, or ever. Before Sunday, seven of the top ten highest rainfalls recorded were from the 19th century, the earliest being in 1853 with 3.45 inches, according to a list of totals recorded since 1849.

As of Monday morning, the rain has petered out in San Francisco, with the storm moving south towards Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.
