
RIDGECREST, Calif. (KNX) — A Ridgecrest man was arrested Saturday after he shot at two teenagers who threw water balloons at his pick-up truck.
Ridgecrest Police Department said officers responded to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital around 10:50 p.m. in regards to victims of a shooting.
Officers learned the two male teenagers, 17 and 18, were driving around in a truck with water balloons in the area of N. McClean Street and E. Ward Avenue when they noticed another pick-up truck parked on the side of the road. The victims saw an older man – later identified as 63-year-old Mark Shell – sleeping inside. The teens threw the water balloons at his truck.
Shell woke up and inspected his car for damages when he saw the teenagers driving back. He grabbed his “12 gauge shotgun” and shot at the victims’ when they drove by, according to officers.
One of the teens who was driving was injured in the shooting and the car received damage as well. Shell drove off after firing shots.
A Kern County Sheriff’s deputy found Shell and truck in the area of W. Bowman Av. and Highway 395.
Officers said Shell was not allowed to have a gun as he is a convicted felon.
Shell was booked into Kern County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
