
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KNX) – A Riverside man was sentenced to two years in prison after he pled guilty to using his tech-support company’s credit card to buy gifts for himself and tried to cover it up for seven years.
Matthew P. Hernandez plead guilty to four felony counts of wire fraud, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Hernandez, who was a manager of a San Diego-based technology support firm, used money from the firm’s business checking account to pay off his personal credit card. He also used the corporate credit card to buy Coachella tickets, airplane tickets, a hot tub a home a gym among other luxuries.
“For years, Mr. Hernandez engaged in a scheme to defraud his employer - treating their business accounts as his own by writing checks and wiring money to himself, misusing his work credit card, and issuing duplicate paychecks,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Stacey Moy.
In addition to serving time in prison, he was ordered to pay $356,664.46 in restitution to the firm.
