San Francisco isn’t taking any chances. The city announced Thursday that it would be extending its stay-at-home order and COVID-19 10-day travel quarantine rules indefinitely.
Although California gave the city the opportunity to leave the order as early as January 8, with ICU capacity steadily staying under 15%, but the city opted to maintain the order.
Currently there is no expiration date for the orders. Although other Bay Area counties have followed San Francisco, it’s not reported yet whether they too will extend or not.
Three days ago, a regional stay-at-home order in effect across Southern California due to surging COVID-19 hospitalizations was formally extended, California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly announced Tuesday.
The stay-at-home order will remain in place for at least three weeks and will continue restriction on all gatherings of people from different households, in-person dining and strict capacity limits at many businesses.
Ghaly said four-week projections show demand exceeding ICU capacity, which means the stay-at-home order will remain in effect. The order will be lifted when "ICU projections are above or equal to 15%."
