San Pablo deputies investigating fatal shooting of armed robber by off-duty officer

SAN PABLO, Calif. (KNX) —The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man believed to be the suspect in an armed robbery is dead after an off-duty police officer shot him on Sunday.

Deputies responded to a shooting at Nation’s Giant Hamburger in the Tara Hills neighborhood in San Pablo after 11:30 a.m., according to the East Bay Times.

According to sheriff’s office, deputies learned a man, later identified as 29-year-old Amanuel Moreno, robbed a cashier at gunpoint. An off-duty officer with the University of California Police Department who was inside at the time confronted Moreno and reportedly shot him once.

The man was taken to the hospital where he died.

No other injuries were reported.
