California Senator Alex Padilla has joined the chorus of Democratic leaders endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
“I was a little saddened by his announcement, but I completely respect it,nd really appreciated the follow-up announcement when he decided to endorse Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee for president of the United States,” he said.
Padilla, who was appointed to Harris’ vacant Senate seat when she became VP and later secured a full-term, voiced his support for Harris at an event in Commerce on Monday. During the event, South Coast AQMD received $500 million to help reduce climate pollution across Southern California.
“It shouldn’t be lost on anybody that the reason we are here celebrating this investment is because of the leadership and partnership of the Biden-Harris administration.” he said.
He added that there’s a lot at stake in the upcoming election, including reproductive rights, climate change, and voting rights.

In the day since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Sen. Laphonza Butler, Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and Congressman Robert Garcia have also endorsed Harris.
