SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Authorities have confirmed that, last month, they found the remains of a Northern California man who had been missing since November.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department confirmed on Friday the remains a hiker found on Dec. 21 in Tahoe National Forest belonged to Tyler Love. The 44-year-old Grass Valley resident was first reported missing on Nov. 2 to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.

A department spokesperson told SFGATE on Tuesday that Love's friend reported him missing after last seeing him at the end of September.

Nevada County officials filed a missing persons report and entered Love's information into a national database. Authorities also issued an advisory to "be on the lookout" for Love, the spokesperson told the outlet.

The hiker called 911 after discovering Love's remains, which police confirmed belonged to a human after arriving on the scene. Detectives were then called to the scene to start a coroner's investigation, a Yuba County Sheriff's spokesperson told the outlet.

Love's remains were found near the Dark Day Campground at New Bullards Bar Reservoir in Comptonville, which the U.S. Forest Service currently lists as closed.

Yuba County officials said they are waiting for autopsy results to determine Love's cause of death.
