EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – An arrest has been made in connection with the fatal stabbing of tech executive and Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco.
The suspect also worked in tech and was known by Lee, according to reports.
Nima Momeni was arrested at his IT office in an Emeryville live-work space early Thursday morning.
The Besler Building is a 100-year-old converted industrial space in the 4000 block of Harlan St. Many creatives, film makers, artists and other tech workers live in the complex. Neighbors told KCBS Radio that police arrived at 5 a.m. and arrested Momeni in a dramatic scene with officers from Emeryville and San Francisco lining the street and barking for the suspect to come out with his hands up.
Those who know Momeni said they were acquainted with him through networking. He is an IT Consultant and owner of Expand IT, Inc. and attended UC Berkeley, according to a LinkedIn profile.
Momeni was described as a friendly guy and the last person you would expect to carry out something violent.
San Francisco police have yet to make an official announcement on the arrest. However, it was reported that a confrontation happened prior to the stabbing.
The case of Bob Lee's stabbing has made national headlines, as some outlets blamed San Francisco's "crime ridden" streets as the reason for his death. The arrest of Momeni somewhat puts these claims to rest, painting the picture of an alleged conflict between acquaintances instead of a random murder.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed told KCBS Radio on Wednesday that San Francisco's crime rates have dropped in recent months. "San Francisco, we've seen an overall reduction in crime in our city and our clearance rate for homicides are 85% and the national average is at 60%," she stated.
