Police charged a 17-year-old girl with murder Friday, accusing her of stabbing and killing her boyfriend's roommate last week.
Fresno police officers dispatched last week after a 911 caller reported a body found beneath a bridge in a dry canal. Authorities identified the person as 20-year-old Sergio Bonboster.
"Officers and EMS personnel arrived and located [Bonboster], who appeared to have been deceased for a couple days," the department said in a statement, adding that — due to the multiple stab wounds to his upper body, his death was ruled a homicide.
Police said the body had been burned and stashed under a trap for several days.
Investigators realized Bonboster's body was found not far from where he lived with his roommate, 20-year-old Lawrence Madrid.
During a search of the pair's home Wednesday, homicide detectives said evidence led them to question Madrid and his 17-year-old girlfriend, whose authorities have not identified.
Detectives said in those interviews, they learned the victim had reportedly been stabbed by the teenage girl after he and his roommate Madrid had a physical fight.
Police arrested Madrid and his girlfriend this week. The teen girl was booked in a juvenile center on murder charges, while 20-year-old Madrid was jailed in Fresno County on charges of being an accessory to murder.
