The Oakland Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of television crew security guard and longtime former police officer Kevin Nishita last month.

Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong announced the arrests at a press conference on Wednesday, but as of right now has not released the identities of the two suspects, pending review by the district attorney's office.

Nishita was working security for a KRON reporter in Oakland when he was shot in November.

"We really do thank the community for all of the information that they've brought forth to help us solve this case," said Armstrong. "I believe that their assistance was key in identifying that vehicle."

Police made headway earlier this week in the case after identifying a vehicle "similar" to the one spotted at the scene of the crime, a white Acura. One of the suspects in custody is the owner of the car, although it is not yet clear what their connection is to the case.

The two suspects have not yet been charged with homicide and are being held currently on other charges.

A third suspect is still at large. All three were reportedly on the scene of the shooting.

"This is still an open investigation," said Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong in Wednesday"s press conference. "We are still seeking other people in this investigation."

"We are, I believe, closing in on the third suspect," he said.

Oakland police have been offering $38,500 for information leading to an arrest. Once the three suspects are apprehended and prosecuted, the district attorney will help assist the department in determining who will receive the reward.

The Oakland Police Department did not respond to KCBS Radio’s request for comment at the time of publication.
