ANAHEIM, Calif. (KNX) – Police in Anaheim are searching for a man who was caught on camera kicking a dog in an apartment hallway.
The incident happened at Gateway Apartment Homes, according to the Orange County Register.
Footage shared on Ring Neighbor Thursday showed the man storming toward a dog in the hallway before briefly chasing it. The dog, who appears to be a large black Labradoodle, cowers as the man punches the animal. The dog then moves to the corner, where the man is seen kicking the dog a couple of times before grabbing it by the leash and walking off with it.
“He drove off in a white BMW," the person who published the video wrote. "Ran out when he was down the hall & saw he was pacing by the elevator angry & was asked to move his car that was randomly parked by it. He peeled off. Absolutely disgusting behavior. I fear for that dog."
Anaheim Police Department said they received the video that night and launched an investigation.
"Over the weekend they were able to succesfully identify the suspect that is in the video," Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carrigen told KNX News, crediting the community for helping.
Carrigen said the department won't publicly identify him until charges are filed, but said that the suspect could face felony or misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
"The circumstances of him being in possession of the dog seen in the video is still part of the investigation," he added. "We haven't determined that completely yet, but it's something the detectives are doing. They're working on where the dog is now in relation to the suspect and making sure the dog is safe and care for."
Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 714-321-3669.
