More details have emerged about the suspect in the mass shooting at San Jose's Valley Transportation Authority light rail yard on Wednesday.
Samuel Cassidy was facing a disciplinary hearing at work on the same day of the shooting. He was under investigation for making racist comments to co-workers, who had filed complaints that Cassidy made what they deemed inappropriate and racist remarks.
There are also reports that Cassidy bragged at work about explosives and owning guns. Authorities seized high capacity rounds of ammunition, as well.
Rep. Ro Khanna visited the victims family, and he later addressed the issue of guns. "Something is deeply wrong that we as a country can’t get our act together to pass sensible laws to try to prevent these gruesome, horrific tragedies," he said.
It is unclear as of Friday morning if any VTA employees reported Cassidy’s bragging about owning guns and explosives.
The investigation is happening at two facilities: the rail yard where the deaths occurred and his home, which was badly damaged in the fire that occurred around the same time of the shooting.
The San Jose Police and Fire Departments were on the scene of Cassidy’s home Friday morning reportedly sifting through his burned belongings to ensure nothing else is dangerous or explosive, but have not indicated whether explosives will be detonated.
Nine people were killed in the shooting before Cassidy committed suicide.
