Following the Golden State Warriors' loss to the Lakers in Game 6, many questioned what will General Manager Bob Myers do next?
With his contract up at the end of June, Myers was torn on whether to stay or leave Golden State. But the question was answered Tuesday morning when Myers revealed to ESPN that he will be stepping down.
He has held the GM and President of Basketball Operations role since 2012. In that time, Myers has added four championships to his belt and won Executive of the Year twice.
He constructed a team that has proved to be one of the great dynasties in modern sports, maintaining their spot at the peak of the NBA mountain for almost a decade. Myers didn't draft Steph Curry, but he built the team around him, drafting Clay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, trading for Andrew Wiggins, acquiring Kevin Durant and signing Curry to a long-term extension. That's why Myers is considered to be the architect.
Maybe his most impactful move — finding the right coach.
Coach Steve Kerr joined the Warriors in 2014. "Bob and I have a great friendship, a great working relationship and I absolutely hope he comes back," Kerr said during an exit interview on May 16. "It's also a case where I want what's best for Bob and if he decides that he's going to leave, of course I'm going to support him 100% and we will remain friends for a long time."
"I would miss him, but I support him regardless of what he does."
It's not yet clear what Myers' next career move will be, but he is holding a press conference at 1 p.m. to answer further questions.
