A bold criminal act was caught on video Monday as two shoplifters simply walked out of a Los Angeles TJ Maxx carrying armfuls of items that they “refused” to pay for, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The video was recorded by an uninvolved third party who later posted it to Instagram. He can be heard commenting, “What’s up, guys? I wanna see how far you guys get,” then follows them all the way out of the Granada Hills store. One of the men can be seen carrying a large duffel bag.

In response to a series of high-profile "brazen" shoplifting incidents in California that made headlines across the country, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced new efforts to crack down.
Law enforcement officials claim scenes like this have become more common as of late in LA since the passing of Proposition 47, a law that converted non-violent property crimes into misdemeanors if the value is less than $950. However, LA has actually seen a decline in robberies and lesser property crimes, according to LA Times reporting.
Moreover, Proposition 47 passed in 2014, which makes an increase in shoplifting in 2021 a difficult connection to prove.
