Above is a live look at Maidan Nezalezhnosti — or Independence Square — in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, where Russian forces renewed bombing Friday after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an offensive aimed at toppling the Ukrainian government.

The number of casualties from the assault is not clear yet.

"They are killing people and transforming peaceful cities into military targets," Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said in a television address in Kyiv. "That's villainous and will never be forgiven."
