NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two Secret Service employees, an agent and an armed physical security specialist, are being sent back to the U.S. from Seoul after allegedly being involved in an off-duty alcohol-related incident, according to several reports.
Both were sent to help prepare for President Joe Biden’s upcoming visit to Seoul. During their time there, the two went out to dinner and later to several bars. The pair was intoxicated and the agent got into a heated argument with a local cab driver, sources told ABC News.
Police showed up at the scene shortly after. Although only one of the two workers was reportedly investigated, neither was detained.
The incident took place outside the hotel where Biden will be staying in Seoul, according to NBC News. The decision to send the employees home was reportedly made while Biden was headed to South Korea on Thursday.
"The Secret Service is aware of an off-duty incident involving two employees which may constitute potential policy violations," agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement to ABC News. "The individuals will be immediately returned back to their post of duty and placed on administrative leave.”
The agent who allegedly got into the argument with the cab driver is scheduled to be interviewed by local police before boarding a flight back to the U.S.
Biden will continue his travels to Tokyo on Sunday, where he is scheduled to meet with Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio before participating in a Monday summit with the leaders of Australia, India and Japan.
