DALLAS (KLUV) — A man in Germany recently filed an insurance claim after he sustained injuries heading to work one morning.
The thing is, he works from home, and he got hurt on his walk from his bedroom to his desk, and a court ruled that he in fact, got hurt on his morning "commute."
There are laws in the United States that allow for worker's comp if you're injured while working from home, but these German courts ruled in the gentleman's favor only because he tripped and fell on his initial walk to his desk from his bedroom.
Had he stopped at his desk first before heading to the kitchen or back to the bedroom and got hurt then, he would not have won his claim.
According to The Guardian, the German federal court ruled, "If the insured activity is carried out in the household of the insured person or at another location, insurance cover is provided to the same extent as when the activity is carried out at the company premises.”
