ALLEN (1080 KRLD) - The grandparents of the 21 year old charged with capital murder in this weekend's shooting in El Paso have acknowledged Patrick Crusius had been staying with them.

Crusius graduated from Plano Senior High School in 2017. He went to Collin College until spring of this year.

His grandparents say Crusius had been staying with them until six weeks ago at their home in Allen. A family friend read a statement outside their home:

"We are devastated by the events of El Paso and pray for the victims of this tragedy. Patrick Crusius is our grandson. He lived with us in our house in Allen, Texas, while he attended Collin College. He moved out of our house six weeks ago and has spent a few nights here while we were out of town.  His driver's license and mailing address were at our house in Allen. That connection has made us a focus of media, of course. We are talking only to law enforcement agencies and will not be making further statements to the media. We request the media to honor our privacy."

Streets and sidewalks outside the grandparents' home are open. Police from Allen and Plano joined the FBI, ATF, Department of Public Safety spent this weekend at the house.

They finished their investigation at the home Sunday afternoon, but a police car was still parked outside Monday morning. Allen police say anyone who goes onto the grandparents' property will be charged with trespassing.

Allen police say they had contact with Crusius three times but never for any criminal activity.

August 6, 2014, he was reported as a runaway. He returned home about 30 minutes later.

November 7, 2016, Crusius was a student riding on a Plano ISD school bus that was involved in a minor accident. No one on the bus was hurt.

March 3, 2019, Crusius called Allen police to report a residential alarm at his grandparents' home was a false alarm.

"On behalf of all the members of the Allen Police Department our thoughts and prayers are with the family members and friends of those affected by this tragedy in El Paso," the department wrote in a statement.
