DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A flight attendant has to get stitches after being bitten by an emotional support dog on an American Airlines flight.

The incident happened Monday on an American Eagle flight going from DFW Airport to Greensboro, N.C.

The flight attendant needed five stitches on his left hand. It’s not clear what breed of dog bit the attendant.

In a statement the Association of Flight Attendants said "What happened on yesterday’s American Airlines flight is completely unacceptable and inexcusable.'' They want the U.S. Department of Transportation to make changes to maintain "safety, health and security for passengers and crew."

American Airlines limits service animal to trained dogs and cats and they must be at least 4 months old. They are also required to provide a veterinary health form and immunization details.
