DALLAS (KRLD) - Would you want to know which schools have high rates of unvaccinated kids? A bill by State Senator Kel Seliger would mandate schools give their immunization rates to parents who ask for the information.

The current policy is filing an open records request. The Panhandle Republican says this gives parents a better idea of risk factors for their children. "Statistically, if X number of kids are not vaccinated your kids have a certain percentage chance, or greater chance of getting Whooping Cough, measles, tetanus or whatever the disease is."

Parents could choose a private school or another public school or do nothing.

Texas is one of 18 states that allow parents to opt out of vaccinating their children because of their philosophical or religious beliefs.

Nearly 58,000 Texas public school students from kindergarten to 12th grade were unvaccinated in the 2017 to 2018 school years.
