DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The search for two missing swimmers along the Texas coast is over.
The U.S. coast guard found the body of Joseph Thomas. He disappeared while swimming along Matagorda Beach on Sunday afternoon.
His father says he had been swimming with friends there and was caught in a riptide. The elder Thomas says his son managed to help one of his friends to safety before he drowned.
Crews later found the body of the missing 17-year-old on Surfside beach this afternoon.
The teenager and two of his friends swam out about 150 yards from shore on Sunday. The friends swam back to shore but saw the teenager was missing. They called 911.
