CARROLLTON (KRLD) - Police in Carrollton have seized $26,000 worth of heroin thanks to help from the department's canine unit.
An officer with the Carrollton Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Old Denton Road and suspected that drugs were in the car. He called in K9 Officer Riggs, and the animal issued a positive alert. A search of the car turned up 289 grams of heroin with a street value of approximately $26,000,
Officer Riggs is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois. He has been with the Carrollton Police Department since September of 2018, when the department's previous K9 unit retired.
Two people were arrested in connection with the traffic stop on Old Denton Road. They're facing drug and probation violation charges
