PLANO (KRLD) - The 37-year-old Collin Creek Mall in Plano looks to soon be getting a makeover.

The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zoning change for American Centurion, who wants to demolish parts of the mall in exchange for new shops, office space, restaurants and thousands of residential units.

The plan also calls for a one and a half acre lagoon to be built.

The commission voted unanimously Monday night in favor of the project.

For the past few years, the once thriving mall, has been in decay. Residents have long complained that something needed to be done.

The full council is expected to consider the billion-dollar redevelopment in a few weeks.

Developers hope to break ground on the project sometime this summer.
